The banlist in force: five cards and three pairs

The 10 April 2026 restriction list bans five cards outright, two of them Leaders, and adds three pairwise exclusions that are easy to miss.

The restriction list that came into force on 10 April 2026 for the English regions is short. It also works in two different ways, and the second one is the one people miss.

The five outright bans

Banned in every format:

  • OP03-040 Nami, Leader, Blue, block 1
  • ST10-001 Trafalgar Law, Leader, Red and Purple, block 2
  • OP06-047 Charlotte Pudding, Character, Blue, block 2
  • OP06-086 Gecko Moria, Character, Black, block 2
  • OP06-116 Reject, Event, Yellow, block 2

Two of the five are Leaders, which is a heavier move than it looks. Banning a Character trims a deck. Banning a Leader deletes the archetype.

Four of the five sit in block 2, which is inside the current Standard window. Rotation was never going to deal with these. They were banned on their own merits.

A ban follows the card number

This matters more to collectors than to players. A ban is keyed to the card number, so every printing of that card is banned with it. The alternate art, the parallel, the manga rare. There is no version of OP06-086 you can legally sleeve.

The reverse holds too, and it is worth getting straight in your head: an alternate art of a legal card is legal. Identity for deck rules is the card number. Identity for your collection is the printing. Those are genuinely different keys, which is exactly why we track them separately.

The three pairs are the easy miss

Three pairs of cards cannot appear in the same deck. Every card in them is individually legal:

  • EB04-058 Borsalino with OP07-115 I Re-Quasar Helllp!!
  • OP11-040 Monkey.D.Luffy with OP11-067 Charlotte Katakuri
  • OP08-069 Charlotte Linlin with OP11-040 Monkey.D.Luffy

Look at that third line again. OP11-040 Monkey.D.Luffy turns up in two different pairs. It cannot be played next to OP11-067, and it cannot be played next to OP08-069, but OP11-067 and OP08-069 sit together perfectly happily.

A validator that treats bans as a flat list of cards will wave through a deck breaking all three of these, because no individual card in it is banned. It is a rule about combinations and it has to be checked as one.

What we do about it

Our deck checker treats pairwise exclusions as their own rule, separate from the copy limit and separate from the ban list, and it names both cards when it finds one. Build a list with both halves of a banned pair and you get told which two cards and why, not a generic "illegal deck".
